Anyways, we spent time in class talking to one another about different ways to overcome the conflicts and one thought kept coming to mind. With the spirit in our hearts and homes we can all put aside our differences and get along. Shortly after that thought, my brain kicked in and gave me a swift kick in the pants. Why would I jump straight to letting the spirit fight my battles and take care of my problems before I even attempt to? Were we not put on this earth to exercise our free agency? Is it right of us to treat a gift as precious as the holy spirit as some sort of end all be all? I truly believe that we can find peace in the gospel and I apologize if I am offending anyone. The purpose of this post is not to shoot down any ones beliefs especially considering that I too am a devout Christian. I just feel that it is unfair for us to expect god to intervene on every argument.
As far as family and relationship conflicts are concerned, our attitudes are what dictates the direction of the conflict. For example, I can recall many times where members of my family did not see eye to eye. On a few of those occasions, family prayer was introduced to invite the spirit into our home. In my opinion I feel like that is a wonderful idea! However, because many of us were upset with each other it was hard to put aside our differences and it was EXTREMELY difficult to feel any sense of peace or understanding. It is this kind of scenario that has led me to believe that it is ineffective to use the spirit as a way to end a conflict but it can work wonders if we choose to involve the spirit in the healing process. If we can exercise proper communication and resolve our differences, our hearts become softer towards one another and we can hear that still small voice that we yearn for.
